DREAM collage on exhibit

MY collage, DREAM, is part of the The Midwest Collage Society traveling Exhibit “Alphabetica III”. The exhibit opens at this new venue tonight at the Orland Park Library, 14921 Ravinia Ave. Orland Park, IL 60462. The work will be on display from April 30th to May 29th.

Meet the artists is tonight, May 1st 7-8:30pm.

The Midwest Collage Society members created this exhibit from one of its own members ideas of using a set of old school alphabet cards. Mary Warner asked each member to pick a card and freely interpret it as they wished. The first exhibit, “Alphabetica”, was shown at Downers Grove Public Library in April 2008 and then shown in September as “Alphabetica II” at Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien. It's consistent popularity with visitors has encouraged the MCS to mount this third exhibit, “Alphabetica III”, at the Orland Park Library during May of 2009.

Each time the exhibit has been presented a few piece have sold; this has encouraged the artists to create new pieces. The Midwest Collage Society members try to represent each letter of the alphabet, but at times a few letters are missing. Children have been encouraged to come to the library’s exhibit to “Find the Missing Letters”

This from The MCS website;

The MCS has over fifty members from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Most members reside in the Chicago area. All members are professional artist who exhibit regularly in urban and suburban galleries. Many exhibit in other states, and few exhibit internationally. The backgrounds of our members are varied, and range from those with graduate training in the fine arts to the self-taught. Many work in fields outside of the art-related professions. The diverse experience of our members is one of the Midwest Collage Society's greatest assets, and has contributed to our growth.
